Rate increase looming for the CT Home Energy Solutions program. Stimulus funding is nearing depletion, meaning the HES co-pay for owners of oil and propane heated homes will increase from $75 to $300. Green Star encourages homeowners who heat with oil or propane to book appointments now to avoid the $225 co-pay increase. Insulation upgrade rebates are also expected to be eliminated. Note there are no HES income restrictions, so book your appointment today!

Home Energy Audits
Don't Make Home Energy Improvements Without One!
Green Star Energy Solutions offers several Home Energy Evaluations to meet your specific needs. All of the evaluations provide homeowners with valuable information about the energy efficiency and health and safety status of their home and recommend energy efficient improvements. The savings from these improvements may even pay for the cost of the improvements, when financed.
If your home experiences any problems like high energy costs, drafty, uncomfortable rooms, high or low humidity, or rodent or insect infestation, you owe it to yourself and your family to have a Home Energy Audit done.
Comprehensive Home Assessment (CHA)
After the in-home inspection and tests, you will receive a customized report which details your home's energy profile and includes a cost savings analysis for each conservation measure. The specialized computer program also provides a simulation model which mimics your home's energy uses and loses based on the status of all existing building components (i.e. windows, doors, walls, insulation) and systems (i.e. heating, AC, duct work).
Home Tune-uP
Home Tune-uP includes:
- Onsite visual inspection and data collection by a trained, certified Home Tune-uP auditor
- A detailed energy report is produced using proprietary, specialized software
- Recommended conservation measures
- Payback analysis for each improvement, calculated with Home Tune-uP software and based on national averages
- Evaluation of thermal envelope, heating and cooling equipment, appliances and lighting. The envelope of your home includes the outer walls, ceilng, windows and floors. The goal is to "Build tight. Ventilate right." A tight building with controlled ventilation maximizes energy conservation and indoor air quality.
- List of maintenance tasks

Want an Independent, Third-Party Opinion?
We fully understand some homeowners require independent, third-party advice before investing in comprehensive home energy improvements to ensure savings estimates are reliable, and that you may want a choice of independent energy audit providers and report formats. We've had excellent feedback from Connecticut homeowners on the independent audit companies listed below. We've seen their audit reports and we know that they are fully competent in building science and provide good, actionable advice, prioritizing conservation measures by financial payback period. Please contact them directly.
However, for NY's Home Performance with Energy Star program (NY HPwES), since the contractor manages all program paperwork and project management, we can't recommend obtaining a Comprehensive Home Assessment (CHA) for HPwES from a third party, but rest assured the NY HPwES program has oversight of all HPwES contractor developed CHAs.
